Louis Hayes
Louis Sedell Hayes was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 31st 1937.
His first professional gig was with fellow Detroiter Yusef Lateef at age 18 (1955-56). He followed this by touring with Horace Silver for three years.
Louis also did a number of recording dates during this time period with John Coltrane and Cecil Taylor.
He joined Cannonball Adderley's Quintet in 1959 and then in 1965 through 1967 and from 1971-72 he was a member of the Oscar Peterson Trio.
He later worked with, amongst others, Freddie Hubbard/Joe Henderson (Jazz Commincators group), Junior Cook, Woody Shaw, Joe Farrell and McCoy Tyner.
He has recorded with John Coltrane, J.J. Johnson, Phineas Newborn Jr., Wes Montgomery, Lee Morgan, Ravi Shankar, Dexter Gordon, Sonny Stitt, Cedar Walton, Lucky Thompson, Terry Gibbs, Oscar Peterson, Cannonball Adderley and other international artists.
He is an alert and driving drummer, extremely versatile and a great leader.
